LOS ORÍGENES DE HALLOWEEN

Halloween se celebra el 31 de Octubre. Es un emocionante evento en los Estados Unidos y Gran Bretaña. Halloween tiene su origen en los antiguos Celtas. En el calendario Celtico“Samhain”era el último día de verano y el último día del año,31 de Octubre.

Los sacerdotes Celtas, llamados Druidas, practicaban rituales religiosos y mágicos en“Samhain”. Ellos también predecían el futuro.

En este día los Celtas hacían grandes fuegos y se vestían con disfraces espeluznantes. Ellos querían asustar a los espíritus malvados. Ellos se vestían de fantasmas, esqueletos y brujas. Ellos creían que estos fantasmas salían de sus tumbas la noche del 31 de Octubre.

“Samhain”también se convirtió en una celebración de la cosecha después de la invasión romana de Gran Bretaña en el año 43. La práctica cristiana sustituyó a la práctica pagana. Los cristianos llamaron al 1 de noviembre día de Todos los espíritus, el día de Todos los Santos. La noche del 31 de Octubre se llamó“Víspera de la noche de los espíritus”. Esto se convirtió en Halloween.

THE ORIGINS OF HALLOWEEN

Halloween is celebrated on 31 October. It is an exciting event in the United States and in Great Britain.

Halloween has ancient Celtic origins. On the Celtic calendar Samhain was the last day of summer and the last day of the year.

The Celtic priests, called Druids, practised religious rituals and magic on Samhain. They also predicted the future.

On this day the Celts made big fires and dressed in scary costumes. They wanted to frighten the evil spirits. They dressed as ghosts, skeletons and witches. They believed that ghosts came out of their tombs on the night of 31 October.

Samhain also became a harvest festival after the Roman invasion of Britain in 43. Christian practices

Replaced pagan practices. The Christians called 1 November All Hallows´ Day, the day of All Saints. The evening of31 October was called All Hallows´ Eve. This became Halloween.
